NURSE’S ROLES IN MANAGING LIFE THREATENING HYPERCALCAEMIA IN PERSON WITH HYPERPARATHYROIDISM : CASE STUDY

This article was written for nurses to understand how to manage life threatening symptoms from hypercalcaemia in person with primary hyperparathyroidism. The article explains definition of primary hyperparathyroidism, classification, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms of life threatening hypercalcaemia, as well as nurses’ roles of primary or secondary health care center in screening, saving life without complication, and referring appropriately. In addition, nurses’ role in monitoring and preparing patients before discharge is also addressed in order to build their self-care ability to prevent the recurrence of life threatening events from hypercalcaemia.
