Quality of life and Satisfaction in Life among Elderly in NCDs Clinic, Hua Khua Primary Health Care Center, Kantharawichai District, Maha Sarakham Province

The objectives of this research were to: 1) study the level of quality of life and satisfaction in life 2) determine the relationship between satisfaction in life, physical, mental social and spiritual self-care, and quality of life among elderly people in the community. The sample consisted of 158 elderly at NCD Clinic who voluntarily participated in the study. The research instruments included the demographic data, WHOQOL-BREF-THAI Questionnaires, and satisfaction in life questionnaires. Data were collected during the month of May–August, 2018. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Spearman rank correlation coefficient.
The study found that overall quality of life of the elderly was at the moderate level (62.1%). The scores of the quality of life of physical, psychological, social relationship and environmental domains were also at the moderate level with 75.7%, 70.1%, 66.0% and 52.7%, respectively. Satisfaction in life of the elderly was at the high level (48.1%). In addition, satisfaction in life, physical self-care, and mental social and spiritual self-care were significantly correlated with quality of life at the moderate level (rs=.687, .405 and .492, respectively).
These findings suggest that the health care provider could use this finding as the baseline data to develop the activities and the guideline for improving the satisfaction of life, providing the academic service focusing on physical self-care, mental social and spiritual self-care in order to increase their quality of life.
