ACCDENTAL INJURY OF THE BLIND IN THE SCHOOL, KHON KAEN PROVINE

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study the incidence rate of accidents and injuries of the blind in a school fot the blind, Khon Kaen province. Data collection in the blinds of 93 people were using by questionnaire through interviewing during March-April, 2021. All descriptive data were analysed by using mean, standard deviation (S.D.), median, minimum, maximum.

The results showed that the incidence rate of the blinds in the past 6 months was 88.17% (82 in 93 of the blinds). These were 34.15% of males, 65.85% of females. All the blinds learned the course of orientationa and mobility for the blind. There was handrail only in the toilet/shower room and handrail stairs. The most accident was hit/hiting an obstacle which was occurred in 80.96% by hit with friends, happened in the afternoon-evening in 17.46%, most occurred at the canteen, dorm, hallway in 17.46% and the most accidental cases had swollen head in 3.17%. The second accident was falling/slip causing by slippery floor in 42.31% which was occurred in the evening (30.77%), happened in toilet/shower room (25.00%), and the most cases had abrasion wound (61.54%). The third accident was an electric shock which was occurred while charging the phone battery (54.55%), happened in the evening (38.64%), occurred at the bedroom (75.00%), and the most cases had anaesthesia (86.64%).

          Suggestions; the environment especially universal design as braille block for the blind should be approved. Moreover, it must provide the teacher or staff for watching out while the blinds are playing, and arrange the leading student for accident prevention by a senior takes care of a junior or a friend takes care of a friend.
