Efficacy of Herbal Extracts for Eliminating Pediculosis Capitis in Primary School Children, Wat Mong Khon Rat School, Pathum Thani Province

ABSTRACT
This study was a quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the efficacy of herbal extracts for eliminating Pediculosis Capitis among primary school children in Wat Mong Khon Rat school, Pathum Thani Province. The samples consisted of 30 primary school children in grade 1-6 who were have Pediculosis Capitis by dividing the samples into experimental and control groups and separating the samples into 3 groups by using 10 school children per group which they were used time of herbal extract at 1 day, 2 days and 3 days, respectively. The experiment group were received Neem (A.Indica), Morinda (M.Citrifolia) and Betle (P.Betle) extract and the control group were received apple blossom extract (A.Squamosa).The instruments consisted of 1.) The experimental tools were eliminated Pediculosis Capitis by herbal extracts and 2.) The questionnaire and log table results of Pediculosis Capitis eliminating after using 2 formulas for herbal extract. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, One-Way ANOVA and Chi-square test. The results reveled that there was no difference of baseline characteristics between two group at baseline (p>0.05). The efficacy of Neem, Morinda and Betle extracts had more efficacy than Apple blossom extract (p<0.001). For the mortality rate of Pediculosis Capitis by time using of herbal extract was found that longer time for using (day) of two formulas herbal extract can be made the better efficacy of Pediculosis Capitis elimination (p<0.05) but there was no difference of using two and three days for eliminating Pediculosis Capitis in experiment and control groups (p=0.458).
The finding suggests that its beneficial to school, teacher and parent for applying the herbal extracts from Neem, Morinda and Betle to eliminate Pediculosis Capitis at time 1 day and 2 days to decrease Pediculosis Capitis and promote healthy status in school children.
