Competency of nurse in Emerging Infectious Disease Care, Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute

Abstract
Nurses providing care for Emerging Infectious Disease patients need to have important professional nurse competencies. The purpose of this descriptive research was to study competency of nurse in Emerging Infectious Disease care, Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute. The study subjects were divided into two groups by a purposive sampling technique. The first group was the key informants consisted of 5 experts infection prevention and control in hospital worker in Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute. The second group was professional nurses working in Emerging Infectious Disease care. The total number of sample was 30. The instruments were open ended questionnaires and five point-rating scale questionnaires. The data gained were statistically analyzed by mean and standard deviation
The results that the competency of nurse in Emerging Infectious Disease Care,
Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute included 6 competencies as follow: 1) Knowledge and skills needed to care for Emerging Infectious Disease 6 items 2) Prevention and control of Emerging Infectious Disease 13 Items 3) Surveillance of Emerging Infectious Disease 8 Items 4) Management and Evaluation of Emerging Infectious Disease 10 Items 5) Quality development of prevention and control of Emerging Infectious Disease 7 items 6) Communication 7 items
The results used to develop and improve knowledge, skills and abilities of professional nurses working in Emerging Infectious Disease care.
