Unit Cost of the In-Patient Service: Airborne Infection Isolation Ward, Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in the fiscal year 2015

Abstract

          This research was aims to study 1) the unit cost of the in-patient service per day into the airborne infection isolation ward, and 2) the unit cost of the in-patient service per admission with various diseases into the airborne infection isolation ward, Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in the fiscal year 2015. The study was provider perspective. The total hospital costs were analyzed using the simultaneous equation method for cost allocation and allocation matrix was created.
          The resultts showed that the unit cost of the in-patient service into the airborne infection isolation ward was 13,242.41 baht per day. And the unit cost of the in-patient service with various diseases into the airborne infection isolation ward between 33,106.03 - 198,636.15 baht per admission; the middle east respiratory syndrome was 198,636.15 baht, tuberculosis crisis was 189,118.17 baht, drug-resistant TB was 132,424.10. baht, influenza crisis was 113,884.73 baht, varicella was 72,833.26 baht, diphtheria was 52,969.64 baht, suspected middle east respiratory syndrome was 48,154.22 baht, suspected infection with Ebola virus was 33,106.03 baht andgeneral crisis patients was 97,924.14 baht. The middle east
respiratory patient had 4 times higher unit cost of the in-patient service per admission than suspected middle east respiratory. Research suggestion for the hospital administrators can use the results for budget making on health services of emerging infectious disease patients. Further research suggestion should be conducted in the unit cost of quarantine close contact emerging infectious diseases cases. And prospective client should be conducted.
