Prevalence and Associated Factors of Work related Accident among the Elderly farmers in Pudsa Sub-district, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

            A cross-sectional analytical study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors of work related accidents among the elderly farmers in Pudsa Sub-district, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. A simple random sampling method was performed to recruit 236 elderly farmers (age ≥ 50 years). A questionnaire was use for data collection. All data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. The results revealed that the subjects were female (55.9%) and male (44.1%) with an average age of 59.43 ± 6.56 years, the mean of work experience was 19.50 ±8.19 years and mean of work time was 7.13 ± 1.50 hours/day. The prevalence of accident at work was 52.5%. The most common accident was receiving a cut or wound (51.6%), slip and fall (45.2%), respectively. A majority of the accident were not severe enough to stop work. Safety behavior was significantly related lower risk of accident at work (p=0.031), and workers who had unsafe behavior were more likely to have an accident 1.73 times (95%CI = 1.10-2.95). The results indicated that related government agencies should recognize the importance of work related accidents and encourage safety behavior to prevent accident among the elderly farmers.
