Abstract

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research as a randomized control group posttest only design. The objectives were: 1) to compare the satisfaction level of emergency patients’ relatives between control group and experimental group after using the information management model through emergency medical service at Emergency department and 2) to compare the level of satisfaction of professional nurses before and after using the information management model for emergency patients’ relatives received services through emergency medical services at  emergency department.

The systematic random sampling method was used to select 60 patients’ relatives and assign into either an experimental or a control group.  The purposive sampling was used to select 10 nurses at Emergency Department. The model was composed of 5 steps: creating relationship and taking care patient’s relatives, preparing information, giving information, relatives being with the patient, and giving personal support. The control group received the routine information. Data collection was done using a self-constructed tool which included information from Management Model and Satisfaction Questionnaire. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics of frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation; Independent t-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test.

Results revealed that the mean scores of emergency patient relatives’ satisfaction level after receiving the information (mean 4.36, S.D. 0.31) were significantly higher than the control group (mean 3.14, S.D. 0.05), p-value = <0.001. The average total satisfaction scores for each item of professional nurses after using the information management model (mean3.93, S.D. 0.22) was found to be significantly higher than before using information management model (mean3.19, S.D. 0.12), p-value = 0.005.
