Development of Nursing Service System in the Observation Unit of Phrachomklao Hospital, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

The descriptive research aims to develop and evaluate the appropriateness of the nursing service system in the observation unit of Phrachomklao. There are 3 processes of the research: 1) to analyze situations and nursing service management in the observation unit – fifteen key informants were specifically selected from both providers and clients, then a set of semi-structured and open-ended questions were used in both individual and focus group interviews in order to collect the data. 2) to set up the nursing service management in the hospital 3) to evaluate the appropriateness of the nursing service system in the observation unit by creating an evaluation form based on the AGREE II, then handed down to the specific samples selected from senior experts, providers and clients before analyzing the data by percentage.  

It is found from the study that there are three main factors that help develop nursing service system in the observation unit as follows: 1) structure – the appropriate and hygienic safe zoning, along with the sufficiency of efficient nursing agents and tools 2) procedure – the ability to use standard guidelines for admitting and referring patients with worsening symptoms, to apply proper nursing process operation, to record focus chartings, to effectively communicate among the nursing team, multidisciplinary team, and clients, and to set up participatory risk management in the working section 3) outcoming result – patient and personnel’s safety, nursing service quality and providers, and clients’ satisfaction. Approximately, the appropriateness of the nursing service system in the observation unit has been developed to 88.49 %, as well.

Nurse administrators can apply the findings for further quality development in the observation unit.
