Prevalence of Prediabetes among Those Receiving Health Checkups from Sungaikolok Hospital and Their Knowledge Related to Such Conditions

Abstract
Objectives: To determine prevalence of prediabetes in those receiving proactive health checkup at Su-ngai Kolok Hospital, and knowledge on prediabetes, overweight and obesity in those with prediabetes. Methods: This study was cross-sectional descriptive research, collecting the data during July 2020 using close-ended questionnaire. The subjects were all of those receiving proactive health checkup. Results: Prevalence of prediabetes in those receiving health checkups in the fiscal y of B.E. 2562 was 28.13%. Those with prediabetes whom their knowledge was assessed had a higher proportion of male than females, with age ranging from 25 to 61 years old and all working as civil servants. The study found the prevalence of overweight and obesity in those with prediabetes were 28.13% and 51.56%, respectively. Average knowledge on prediabetes of the subjects with such condition was 6.28±2.37 points out of the total score of 13 points, while knowledge levels on overweight and obesity in prediabetes were 2.77±1.28 out of 10. Conclusion: Proportion of those attending the active health checkup clinic with prediabetes was 7.03 %. Proportion of prediabetes with overweight and obesity were 28.13% and 51.56%, respectively. These subjects had a relevant level of knowledge less than half of the full score. The Hospitals should use the results to plan the service to provide knowledge, raise awareness and modify health behavior of those with prediabetes.
