Health-Related Quality of Life and Spiritual Well-Being of Patients with Type 2 Diabetesin Amphur Kantarawichai Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract
Objective: To study the quality of life in health and spiritual well-being of type 2 diabetic patients and factors related to the quality of life. Methods: This study was a quantitative cross-sectional survey in 228 Type 2 diabetes in Kantharawichai district, Maha Sarakham Province selected by simple random sampling. The researcher collected data by interviewing using the 9-THAI for measuring quality of life and the Spiritual Well-being Scale for Thai Buddhist Adults with Chronic Illness for measuring spiritual well-being. Results: The subjects had a median (interquartile range) of the physical quality of life at 36.22 (20.51), and at 33.97 (22.80) psychological quality of life. (mean of both quality of life on both sides was set at 50 points with 10 standard deviation). Spirit well-being in the dimensions of hope and bonding, understanding of self and nature of life, and peace were 3.80 (0.80), 3.50 (1.00) and 3.50 (1.00), respectively (from the full score of 5 points). Physical quality of life was related to gender. Psychological quality of life was related to gender, age, not drinking alcohol, and being a religious person. Spiritual well-being was associated with age, yoga practicing, meditation, receiving support from others, belief that making merit and doing good will improve health, belief that illness was caused by karma or evils, being part of a religious community, stable personal beliefs, and the level of spiritual beliefs. Conclusion: Type 2 diabetic patients had a moderate level of quality of life, and a moderate to high level of spiritual well-being. The quality of life and spiritual well-being were statistically correlated with the personal characteristics, beliefs, religion and support from others.
