Developing innovation of Mobile Device Application: Application “Doo FUN” in Trang 2022 (Quality brushing using the application "Doo FUN" for Dental Plaque Disclosure Recording)

Abstract

The objectives of this research are 1) to develop the mobile phone application “Doo Fun” to record dental plaque disclosure among elementary students by their teachers and 2) to evaluate the use of this application and the satisfaction of using it by the teachers. The study subjects included 1) 25 teachers from 5 voluntary schools and 2) 213 grade 3-5 elementary school students. The research instrument is a mobile device application that is available both on Android and IOS to record dental plaque disclosure, provide knowledge and evaluate the results. Due to an online questionnaire on teachers’ satisfaction that had Cronbach's alpha =.89, the data have been analyzed by descriptive statistics in terms of means and percentages before comparing with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.

The research results reveal that at the first time, the approximate score showing dental plaque disclosure through stained teeth is 2.70, the standard deviation is .31 and the median is 3.00 whereas, at the second time, the approximate score is 2.00, the standard deviation is .67 and the median is 2.00. Due to the results of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, the statistical significance become deviated to .01 (Z = -10.08, p <.001) while the teachers’ satisfaction with the use of the application “Doo Fun” is at the highest rank (M = 4.65, SD = .28) in overall.       

According to the results above, the application “Doo Fun” help record and evaluate the cases of dental plaque disclosure. The comparative results of tooth staining, too, cannot only be easily noticed but also applied in tooth-cleansing checkups.
