The Outcomes of Project-Based Learning to Build on Further Knowledge of Social Determinants of Health among Nursing Students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surin

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research using the same sample group in pre and post-experiment aims at examining the outcomes of project-Based learning to build on further knowledge of social determinants of health among undergraduate nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surin. The 100 representatives have been specifically selected to take the research tool: a knowledge measurement test focusing on social determinants of health having confidence value KR - 20 at .82, which is a part of the community’s folkway study project belonging to the subject named The Cohabitation between Human, Society, and Environment. The data are analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and covariant analysis. All bring about:

1. The mean score of knowledge before learning was at the medium level (M = 7.09, SD = 1.1) whereas the knowledge average score after learning management reached the high level at (M = 10.83, SD = 1.43). It shows statistically significant difference at (t = 28.11, p < .001), as well.

2. After comparing post-learning management scores between groups, there is no statistically significant difference. However, after using the pre-learning management scores as a co-variability, there is no statistically significant difference, too.         

The results of this research indicate that project-based learning management is effective for building on learners' knowledge and can be applied for teaching management in a nursing college in order to provide experimental and self-directed learning.
