Abstract

This descriptive survey research is aimed to reveal population food security status
with Geographic Information System (GIS) applied in 150 households in Plabpla Sub-district,
Chaingkwan Districts, Roi-Et Province, Thailand. The data collection included general
information, food security and problem solving, deriving for food security data base. Then,
descriptive statistic was used for data interpretation. Majority of response subjects were
agriculturist (76.7%), family size is 4-6, income/year average 80,089.33 Baht, have their own
land, and still have loan. Information of food security and accessibility were found that
house hold head in term of wife is the food provider/preparation. Most of the food was
purchased from community vendors. Poverty line was used to classify the income of
households as the poor 45.3% and the rich 54.7%. The poor has less sufficient expenses,
more anxiety and difficulty in food providing than another. Moreover, the poorer must
borrow and pay by installments for food purchasing. By the way, most of the households
solved the food security problem by exchanging their favor food to other, borrowing and
asking for help from their relationship as well as preserving food (e.g. fermented fish and
drying) and seeking food nature such as hunting, fishing and harvesting vegetable.
