Abstract
Objective: To develop a medical cannabis training program for village health volunteers “cannabis literate VHVs in the 8th Health Region” (the Program) and to study the outcomes of the Program in terms of knowledge and satisfaction among village health volunteers (VHVs). Method: This research and development consisted of 4 phases. Phase 1 was the study of general information and the needs for VHV development in medical marijuana. Phase 2 was the design and development of Program. Phase 3 was the pilot training of the Program. Phase 4 was the evaluation and revision of the Program. The subjects were 30 VHVs. Research design was a single group with pre and post-training measurements. A study measured knowledge of VHVs in medical cannabis before and after the training. Results: The Program consisted of 7 main components: 1. reasons and necessity to develop the Program, 2. rationale of the Program, 3. objectives of the Program, 4. the structure of the Program, 5. learning activities, 6. learning materials, and 7. measurement and evaluation. The assessment of Program quality by experts found that the components of the Program were consistent and were appropriate at the highest level (4.70±0.39 from a full score of 5). Pilot training with the Program revealed that the average knowledge of the VHVs after the training (13.40±1.92 from a full score of 15)was statistically significantly higher than that before the training (10.07±3.57) (P<0.001, 95%CI of the increased score was 1.70-4.96). In term of satisfaction, the subjects were very satisfied with the Program (4.16 ± 0.51 out of full score 5) Conclusion: The developed Program showed consistency in its components and having a highest level of appropriateness. The pilot training with the Program revealed that the VHV's knowledge increased after the training and VHV had a high level of satisfaction with the Program. Therefore, the Program could be used as a standard course in training for VHV. in other regions.
