Identifying the Specification of Differential Diagnosis Tool for Ear Inflammation within the Context of Thai Community Pharmacy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To identify the specification of differential diagnosis tool for ear inflammation within the context of community pharmacy in Thailand. Methods: Mixed method methodology was employed including 1) systematic reviews and 2) opinion survey. Outcomes of interest were issues for identifying the specification of differential diagnosis tool for ear inflammation within the context of Thai community pharmacy. Results: 29 studies passed the inclusion criteria, and having high-quality. Important issues extracted from the studies were 1) information on temperature must be available 2) eardrum inflammation must be assessable 3) concrete results must be obtained and 4) convenient for the user and patient. This research identified the characteristics of two prototypes with different specifications. Survey of expert opinions revealed that the specification of the second prototype was most appropriate. The most important clinical consideration in differential diagnosis of outer, middle or inner ear infections was the assessment of patient-specific key information related to the symptoms of each type of ear inflammation. Conclusion: There is currently no concrete method for differential diagnosis of this disease in pharmacies. It is very difficult to do so because pharmacists are not allowed to conduct direct physical examination of patients. However, no prototype device has actually been invented. Further research is needed in healthy volunteers and patients. This research identified important information on specification of differential diagnosis tool for ear inflammation and a model for prototype ready for inventing the tool for further study.
