Safety of the Use of Derris Scanden Capsule in Place of Diclofenac

Abstract
Objective: To study the safety of Derris Scanden capsule in place of diclofenac in Huaiyot hospital, Trang province. Method: This study retrospectively collected data from all patients who had been prescribed Derris Scanden or diclofenac from 2011 to 2016. The study also collected the data on adverse reactions from the records of adverse events in the HOSxP program. Results: In the study period, there were 6,908 patients receiving Derris Scanden with 4 experiencing adverse reactions. Of the 11,088 patients receiving diclofenac, 11 had adverse events. The use of Derris Scanden reduced the risk of adverse events by having relative risk of 0.6 (95% CI 0.2 - 2.0, p = 0.454) compared to diclofenac. The results were not statistically significant. because of small numbers of patients with adverse events in the study. Conclusion: There is a tendency of lower adverse events with the use of Derris Scanden, compared to diclofenac. No statistical significance was observed. Therefore, the study in a larger sample size is neded.
