Instructional Design with Real Case Exposures in the Drug System and Health Course

Abstract

Objective: To design and evaluate the teaching and learning experiences in the Drug System and Health course among the 3^th year pharmacy students at Chulalongkorn University in the academic year 2011. Method: The study was a descriptive classroom research conducted during the ongoing course with an aim to describe the appropriateness of learning experiences in the view of students and teachers and to summarize the lesson learned for further improvement of the course. The assessment of learning among students was done by comparing the level of learning before and after the attendance of the course. Results: The course was structured on the lecture based on real case study and field visit to survey the community problems. The course was designed to link learning experiences from the conventional classroom lecture with that from field trip in order to facilitate among students a better learning and knowledge application to explain real life problems. The learning assessment showed that the students had a significant higher level of knowledge on health, drug system and community at the end of the course, compared to that at the beginning of the course (p<0.05). Conclusion: The instruction design in the Drug System and Health course as mentioned in the article provide a learning experience with a satisfactory achievement among students.
