Evaluation of Internet Lessons on Contraceptive Pills

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of the computer assisted instruction (CAI) via internet on oral contraceptives on knowledge of learners. Method: The researchers launched the CAI via internet on the selection, usage, side effects and precautions on oral contraceptives pills (OCP).  The subjects were the visitors of the website during October 7, 2008 to January, 28 2009 who completed the pre-test questions, the test for each lesson, questions on the post-test. They also completed satisfaction evaluation form. The learning efficiency criteria was determined from the ratio of E1/E2=80/80, or the ratio of process efficiency to learning achievement. Results: There were 77 visitors in the study period. However, only 25 subjects completed the tests and all exercises. The learning efficiency of OCP-CAI conformed to the pre-defined criteria as E₁/E₂ = 83/95. The average scores at the pre-test and post-test were 5.83+1.7 and 9.54+1.00, respectively, from the total score of 10 (P<0.001). The ratio of the pre-test score to the post-test score was 58/95.  The satisfaction score was at the good to excellent level with mean at 4.6 (n=17).  Conclusion: The OCP-CAI distributed via internet was effective to increase the knowledge among the learners on the selection, usage, side effects and warning of the OCP.  The learners were satisfied with the CAI.
