Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of mortality among the Thai population. Chemotherapy is a principal treatment modality aimed at curative and improving patient survival; however, it requires competent nursing care to ensure patient safety. Registered nurses must therefore possess adequate knowledge, skills, and competencies in delivering chemotherapy care. This quasi-experimental study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational training program on knowledge and competency in chemotherapy patient care among registered nurses. A total of 23 nurses with at least two years of clinical experience were purposively recruited from University Hospital, most of whom had 2-5 years of experience. Data were compared before and after participating in the training program using a paired t-test. The results demonstrated that post-intervention knowledge scores were significantly higher than pre-intervention scores (p < 0.001). In addition, all participants (100%) were able to perform according to establish standards following the training program, indicating improved clinical competency. These findings suggest that the educational training program effectively enhances knowledge and competency in chemotherapy patient care among registered nurses. However, given the short period of this study, future research should incorporate longitudinal follow-up to assess the sustainability of competency development
