Abstract

Professional nurses use social media in their administrative, service, and academic work. However, issues have arisen regarding the inappropriate use of social media, including accessing unreliable media, choosing untrustworthy sources, failing to evaluate media content, and creating inappropriate media. These issues have led to complaints, lawsuits, and damages to both individuals and organizations. This is especially true for Generation Z professional nurses, who are the most active group in social media communication. This predictive research aimed to assess the level of media literacy and the factors influencing media literacy among Generation Z professional nurses in a regional hospital. The study involved 174 Generation Z professional nurses, using a media literacy questionnaire as the research tool. Data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression analysis, which revealed that the overall level of media literacy among Generation Z professional nurses was high. The study found that personal factors, such as media exposure choices, critical thinking, and environmental factors, significantly influenced media literacy, accounting for 58.8% of the variance. Therefore, administrators can use the findings on critical thinking, media exposure, family influence, and role models identified as factors affecting media literacy to develop media literacy among Generation Z professional nurses
