Abstract

Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) performance among Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) are not defined role or unclear scope of performance. This mixed methods research design with an exploratory sequential design aimed to study components of prevention and control of NCDs performance among VHVs, Sukhothai Province. This included Phase I: prevention and control of NCDs performance, the key informants were three outstanding VHVs. They were selected by using intensity sampling technique, in-depth interviews were employed for data collection, verify reliability for the data with data triangulation, and the data were analyzed by using content analysis. Phase II: components of prevention and control of NCDs performance, the samples were 320 VHVs in Sukhothai Province. They were selected using a systematic random sampling technique, the questionnaire was employed for data collection, and the data were analyzed by using explorative factor analysis. The results revealed that the prevention and control of NCDs performance among VHVs consist of five components as follows: NCDs Controlling explained the variance at 18.1%, NCDs screening explained the variance at 17.1%, Community health development explained the variance at 16.4%, NCDs management explained the variance at 9.0% and NCDs surveillance explained the variance at 5.1%. Thus, these five components explain the total variance at 65.8%.
