Painful Shoulder in Acute Stroke Patients

Abstract

Shoulder pain is a common complication of acute stroke patient. It has effect on physical therapy and  recovery of patient. This retrospective study aimed to estimate the incidence of shoulder pain in acute stroke  patient. The data were collected from the recorded physical therapy cards from October 2015 to September  2016, analyzed by using computer program and reported in number, frequency, percentage, mean and  standard deviation. The risks of shoulder pain were compared by using multiple logistic regression with  statistic significant level at 0.05. There were 446 stroke patients in this study and the incidence of shoulder  pain was 11.2 %. Group of patients who could followed command less than 2 steps (group 1) had risk of  shoulder pain 2.17 times than those who could follow command 2 steps (group 2) [crude OR 2.17 (95%CI 1.199, 3.928)]. Thus, the rehabilitation therapy should be aware in patients who could not followed command
