Abstract

Tooth wear is the important problem of oral rehabilitation. Excessive occlusal attrition can result in
facial contour, esthetic disfigurement, occlusal disharmony and impaired mastication function. Normally,
gradual tooth wear is compensated by continuous eruption of teeth, which maintains occlusal vertical dimension.
If occlusal wear occurs severely and rapidly, it can lead to loss of occlusal vertical dimension. The evaluation
of occlusal vertical dimension can be achieved with several methods such as phonetics, interocclusal distance
and facial soft tissue contour. The diagnosis and treatment plan should include a review of the patient’s
systemic health, functional, esthetic and psychological need of patient. Overly removable partial denture
(ORPDs) is presented as alternative treatment to full mouth rehabilitation fixed prosthetic. An indication for
ORPDs is an interim and permanent prosthesis. The advantages of ORPDs are less expensive, simple
method and less traumatic than fixed prosthetic. This article report a case of severe occlusal wear managed
with overlay removable partial denture. The patient used ORPDs effectively with good satisfaction. In conclusion,
the use of ORPDs is a good alternative method to fix prosthetic in patient with severely worn dentition.
