Suicide Prevention Situation of Depressive Patients

Depression is an important psychiatric problem leading to suicide.This descriptive research
aimed to study the situation of suicide prevention in depressive patients from 4 related groups consisted
of depressive patients, family members of depressive patients, psychiatric team personnel and healthcare
network, Amphur Chondan, Petchabun province. Each group was specifically selected 17 people.The depressive
patients were patients who had registered at Chondan hospital, Petchabun province in 2015, age 18 years
or more, evaluated depression by Patient Health Questionnaires 9 and had scores 7 or more, had
good perception, no psychiatric symptoms, could communicate, read and write Thai language.
The results showed that all depressive patients help themselves to perform daily living. Patients intended
to join with the social activities and liked to attend social events about 94.1%. They think that the suicide
was a sin. They requested psychiatric team personnel of Chondan hospital and healthcare network
come to visit them more often. They joined activities with their family members about 88.2%. When experiencing
difficulties, they would consult their son, parents, relatives and friends. About 82.3% had stress caused
by worrying about their son. They took relaxation outlets by watching movies, television, listen to music,
gardening, exercise and pray.They were happy with the present time livelihood, value their life, beloved
by their son about 76.5%. All of family members realized that stress could lead to suicide. They want
psychiatric team personnel of Chondan hospital and healthcare network come to visit the patient regularly.
In conclusion, the depressive patients and relative personnel have health literacy in suicide prevention.
