The researcher randomized the 90 patients into 45 patients in eachgroups, those who took amoxicillin 500 milligrams three times a day for seven days and those who did not receive amoxicillin.
It was found that there was no difference between those two groups in baseline characteristic such as gender, age, underlying disease, examination and treatment data and post operation behaviors of patients. The evaluation at one week after operation was found that the group who took amoxicillin had the signs of inflammation and infection in mild to moderate level less than those patients who did not take amoxicillin (p = 0.002). But, the rate of infection was not different. The study concluded that amoxicillin has no effectiveness in prevention of infection after the third molar surgery.
