A Model Development in Hepatitis C Screening by Village Health Volunteers
Hepatitis C Virus Screening Model
Keywords:
hepatitis C virus, village health volunteer, screening, model developmentAbstract
The hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening will help reduce spread of infection and dangers to happen. This research and development had three phases, aimed to (1) develop a screening model for HCV by village health volunteers (VHVs) (2) assess knowledge, operation, and satisfaction of HCV screening by VHVs (3) compare knowledge of HCV and people's satisfaction with screening services of population by VHVs with public health officials. Studied in 66 VHVs and people who received screening with VHVs and public health officers (440 people/group). HCV screening model by VHVs consisted of 1) public relations 2) preparing equipment and 3) HCV diagnosis service. However, most of VHVs, (98.5%), had good knowledge of HCV. The VHVs, 63.7% performed the screening test at a high level and 95.5% of the VHVs were satisfied with the screening at a high level. The screening results found that people who received screening services by VHVs had average knowledge score 9.28 ± 2.82 points (out of 15 points) less than screened group who received screening by public health officers which was equal to 9.89 ± 3.00 points, statistically significant (p = 0.002). But there was no difference with people's satisfaction in each group (p = 0.121). Therefore, this HCV screening model should be expanded to use by VHVs
