การล้างไตทางช่องท้องเป็นวิธีบำบัดทดแทนไตที่เหมาะสมสำหรับผู้ ป่วยเด็กโรคไตวายเรื้อรัง การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินภาวะ แทรกซ้อนและผลลัพธ์ทางคลินิกในผู้ป่วยเด็กโรคไตวายเรื้อรังระยะสุดท้ายที่ได้รับการรักษาด้วยการล้างไตทางช่องท้อง โดยศึกษาข้อมูล ย้อนหลังจากเวชระเบียนพบผู้ป่วย 35 คนที่อายุน้อยกว่า 15 ปี เมื่อแรก วินิจฉัยและได้รับการรักษาด้วยการล้างไตทางช่องท้องระหว่างวันที่ 1 มกราคม พ.ศ.2553 ถึงวันที่ 31 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2563 ผู้ป่วย 35 คนได้รับ การล้างไตทางช่องท้องทั้งหมด 876 เดือน ค่ามัธยฐานของอายุ 11 ปี 1 เดือน (อายุ 6 เดือน ถึง 15 ปี) เกิดภาวะเยื่อบุช่องท้องอักเสบ 50 ครั้งใน ผู้ป่วย 19 คน (1 ครั้ง/17.5 patient-month) ระยะเวลาตั้งแต่เริ่มล้าง ไตจนถึงเกิดภาวะเยื่อบุช่องท้องอักเสบครั้งแรก 1-82 เดือน พบเชื้อแบคทีเรียแกรมลบมากที่สุด (ร้อยละ 42) ภาวะสายเลื่อนผิดตำแหน่ง เป็นภาวะแทรกซ้อนที่ไม่เกี่ยวข้องกับการติดเชื้อที่พบมากที่สุด (ร้อยละ 50) พบอัตราป่วยตาย ร้อยละ 22.9 สรุปได้ว่า ภาวะเยื่อบุช่องท้อง อักเสบเป็นภาวะแทรกซ้อนที่พบได้บ่อยในผู้ป่วยเด็กที่ได้รับการรักษา ด้วยการล้างไตทางช่องท้องและพบเชื้อ Acinetobacter baumannii บ่อยที่สุด
