Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD),a common chronic disease in the general population,is the most common anxiety disorders.This quasi-experimental research had aimed to study the effect of problem-solving program therapy on anxiety symptoms of patients with generalized anxiety disorders. Samples were fifty patients with generalized anxiety disorders,aged 18 years or more.They were randomly assigned into the experimental (problem-solving program therapy) and the control (regular nursing care) group, 25 patients in each group. Data collection were using by the personal questionnaires and the self-rating
anxiety scale (SAS). The reliability of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) was 0.78. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics included percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, fisher’s ex act test and t-test. The results showed that, the mean score for the anxiety symptoms of patients with GAD after receiving the problem-solving program therapy was significantly lower than that before therapy. The mean difference between pre and post mean scores for the patients with GAD that problem-solving program therapy group was higher than and regular nursing intervention group.In conclusion, the problem-solving program therapy can reduce anxiety symptoms on patient with generalized anxiety disorders.
