Relationships between Illness representation and Social Support with Health Behaviors of Persons with Metabolic Syndrome

The purpose of this research was to study relationships between illness representation and social support with health behaviors of persons with metabolic syndrome (MS) who visited the Non Communicable Diseases Clinics, The Sub-District Health Promotion Hospital, Inburi District, Singburi Province. 197 MS patients were recruited by simple random sampling. The collected data of demographic data health behaviors, illness representation and social support questionnaires. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson,s Product Moment correlation coefficients.
The results showed that illness representation and social support were significantly related to health behaviors (r = .535, p < .01; r = .478, p < .01, respectively) From research findings, health care providers should promote health behavior of MS patient based on illness representation and social support.
