Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a profound global impact on public health systems. A significant number of survivors experience long-term complications known as Post-COVID-19 Syndrome, which may persist for months after the initial infection. Strengthening self-care capacity among patients with post-COVID complications through support and education systems empowers individuals to manage their health more effectively, with ongoing guidance from healthcare professionals.

This study aimed to (1) examine the level of self-care knowledge among patients with post-COVID-19 complications, (2) develop a support and educational system for self-care, and (3) evaluate patients’ knowledge and satisfaction after implementing the system. The sample consisted of 150 individuals experiencing Post-COVID or Long COVID syndrome in Nasiao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province. A purposive sampling method was employed, and 32 participants with low baseline knowledge scores were selected to participate in the intervention. Research instruments included (1) a general demographic questionnaire, (2) a post-COVID complication assessment form, (3) a Tele-nursing monitoring log, (4) a satisfaction assessment form, and (5) a self-care reflection journal. Educational materials such as videos, knowledge kits, and pamphlets were also utilized. The instruments were validated by three experts, achieving a content validity index (CVI) of 0.97 and a reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha) of 0.76. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (paired-sample t-test) to compare knowledge levels before and after the intervention.

Results showed a statistically significant improvement in participants’ knowledge scores following the intervention (p < 0.01). The mean pre-test score was 12.15 (S.D. = 2.08), which increased to 16.28 (S.D. = 1.59), with a mean difference of 4.13 (95% CI = 3.41 – 4.84). This study demonstrates that the developed support and educational system effectively enhanced self-care knowledge among patients with post-COVID complications and can be applied to community health promotion strategies.
