Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of the developed health service system for Type 2
diabetics which applied principles of the POSDC management theory and social support theory through the
group process to help Type 2 diabetics in the primary care units of Amphoe Tha Uthen. This quasiexperimental
research design was conducted between The 1 June 2009 and 31 August 2009. The samples
were diabetics whose could not be controlled blood sugar and divided into 2 groups, an experimental group
of 42 and a comparison group of 38 patients. Data were collected before and after the experiment using a
questionnaire on knowledge, performance, and satisfaction with the developed model. Also, the levels of
sugar in blood of the patients in both groups were measured. The collected data were analyzed using
mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
The study findings revealed that the diabetics in the experimental group after receiving new
services, their mean score on knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus, performance, and satisfaction with the
service were increased when compared with those before the experiment. In addition the average level of
blood sugar was statistically significant decreased (p<0.05).
