Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the Effects of a Cognitive Skill Development Program on Executive Function in Preschool Children. A two-group pretest–posttest design was used to compare executive function scores before and after the intervention in the experimental group and to compare the differences between the experimental and control groups. The sample consisted of 70 preschool children aged 3–5 years, divided equally into an experimental group (n= 35) and a control group (n=35). The intervention included three structured activities conducted over four weeks, with two sessions per week. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Differences in baseline characteristics between groups were assessed using the Chi-square test and independent t-test. Within-group comparisons were conducted using the dependent t-test.

The results revealed that, after participating in the program, the experimental group demonstrated a significantly higher mean score in executive function compared to their pre-intervention scores (mean difference=20.97, p<0.001). Furthermore, the comparison of mean score differences between the experimental and control groups showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). In conclusion, the brain skill enhancement program significantly improved executive function in preschool children. These findings suggest that such programs can be effectively implemented by public health and early childhood education professionals to promote executive function skills and potentially prevent related behavioral problems. Long-term follow-up studies are recommended to evaluate the sustained effectiveness of the intervention.
