The Effect Factors to Health Status of Farmers Pesticide Use Planting Pineapples in Nontan Sub-district, Thauthen District, Nakhonphanom Province
Abstract
The objective of this cross-sectional descriptive study was to study health status of pineapple farmers using chemical pesticides in Tambon Non Tan, Tha Uthen District, Nakhon Phanom. The researcher collected data by personal interviews from a sample of 380 pineapple farmers during January to April, 2561. The data was analyzed by means of number, percentage, mean, multiple logistic regression (95 % confidence intervals).
The results showed that factors associated with health status at 95 % CI were
(1) the behavior of pineapple farmers buying chemical pesticides, plant growth hormone, or chemical fertilizer more than 5,000 baht per year (ORadj= 1.82; 95% CI=1.16-2.87, P-value=0.009), (2) using mixed fertilizer or mixing more than 2-3 kinds of chemical substance (ORadj=2.19; 95% CI=1.39-3.44, P-value=< 0.001), (3) exceeding concentration dose of chemical substances or products more than recommended dose on a label (ORadj=0.18; 95% CI=0.07-0.44, P-value=<0.001), (4) having high level of health risk behaviors (ORadj=0.61; 95% CI=0.39-0.95, P-value=0.032)
Recommendation: The information of health risk behaviors affecting to health status should be used to find prevention and a solution of a problem of using chemical pesticides by farmers in the area.
