A Modification of the Behavioral Program in Dental Carries Prevention Among Preschool Age for Wat Bankao Child Development Center, Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract

The purposes of this quasi-experimental research (two groups pretest – posttest) to examine result
of a modification of the behavioral program in dental carries prevention among preschool age in
(1) correctness and usual brushing teeth (2) spit out (3) quantity of bacterial stains in the teeth. The sample
consisted of 60 preschool children, they were divided into 2 groups : an experimental group at Wat Bankao
Child Development Center 30 subjects, and a comparison group at Wat wangtakhuan Child Development
Center 30 subjects by Multistage sampling. The experimental group received skill training and education from
this program by applied AIC, Law of Exercise and Modeling from 9 January to 27 March 2009. The data were
analyzed by using frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
The result showed that after experiment and follow up period, the experimental group had behaviors in
correctness and usual brushing teeth ,the behaviors in spit out better than before experiment and better than
comparison group (p< 0.05) ,the quantity of bacterial stains in the teeth immediately after experiment and
follow up period were smaller than comparison group (p< 0.05)
In conclusion, the provision of this program could cause the children to have better dental health
behavior. Therefore, involved participant should to apply the program in other child development center.
