Health Security Promotion Process of Rural Families in Nongbualamphu Province

Abstract

The objective of this study aimed to describe the promotion process of rural families on health security
in Nongbualamphu province. The concept was based on social capital of Williams (1978), Coleman (1988),
Bourdieu (1989), Putnam (1993), Port (1998) and Woolcock (2001). It is a qualitative study from social
phenomenon. Data was collected through households who health care within family and chairman of group
who responsibility on health in community amount 30 persons, during August 2008 to March 2009 by in-depth
interviews, group discussion, and observations. Data is analyzed by content analysis. Research found that;
health security promotion processes of rural families have created on 3 aspects as follows: type 1 health
security have promoted the process relatives within family such as socialization, convey health that collect
from version to version, to establish trust in health care eating, and instruct the mind that is the process of
creating a secure family health in rural health dimension; the review body to make life and emotional health
dimension, the family as a reliable emotional. Type 2 health security have promoted the process pass
neighboring in communities both formal and informal group such as youth group, housekeepers group,
teenagers against drugs users group, health volunteers group, cremation in communities group, and elder
groups. Beside, informal group: cultural conservation groups, including group and worship. These are
promoted processes of health security in social health dimension, because of harmony in society and health
intellectual property from the exchange of experience on health. And then, type 3 health security have
promoted the process pass the network institutions and organization outside the community which based on
the link consists of HIV infection networks, youth camp, sub-district health insurance fund, health center
services, emergency medical services, and recovery unit to health services. Those are promoted process of
health security of rural families in physical health dimension, because the agency can help access to the
medical services. In addition, in mental health dimension by add the channels for poor families to go to doctor.
The social health section has social relationships because people in society can help each other and health
intellectual property, because the family to learn more experience exchange and save up to take advantage.
As a result, rural family in Nongbualamphu province have secured on health; so health is promoted by the
social capital that Ostrom (2000) said social capital which much more and more added the value and not
entirely.
