The Development of Self Help Group Program on Quality of Life among Colorectal Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

The Purposes of the quasi–experimental study were to examine the
development of self help group program on quality of life among colorectal cancer
patients undergoing chemotherapy, Jainadnarendra Hospital during 1 August 2013 to 31
December 2013. The patients were randomly assigned in experimental and control group.
Each group consist of 30 patients. The experimental group was implemented self help
group while the control group received conventional nursing care. The instrument used in
this study were questionnaires for the quality life evaluation. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient
of those instrument was .81. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analytical
statistic (dependent t-test and in dependent t-test).
The results revealed that the post–test mean scores of quality of life of the
experimental group was significantly higher than the pre–test phase (p<.01) and the post –
test mean scores of quality of life of the experimental group was significantly higher than
that of the control group (p<.01).
The recommendation of this study; should be encourage the agency to use selfhelp
groups in colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy that has been ongoing.
