Abstract

The objective of the quasi-experimental study was to investigate the effects of
the program for changing self-care behaviors of high-risk people to diabetes in Tum subdistrict,
Muang Sisaket District, Sisaket Province. There were totally 100 participants which
were divided into 2 groups each of which consisted of 50 people: the experimental group
people high-risk diabetes at Tum sub-district, Muang Sisaket district; and the control group
of people high-risk diabetes at Muang Nuea sub-district, Muang Sisaket district. The
experimental group received the program for 12 weeks, and the control group did not
receive the program. Data were collected from questionnaires before and after experiments
during August 1st to December 31st, 2014. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics
and presented in percentages, standard deviations, medians, and maximum and minimum
values. Comparing the differences of average scores of variables of within group relied on
the paired t-test. Comparing differences of averages of variables between groups was based
on the independent test . The statistical significance was set at p-value<0.05.
According to the study results, in the experimental group, most samples accounting
for 54.0% were male. The average age was 51.6yrs (S.D.=2.9 yrs). Sixty percentages of the
samples were married. Twenty eight percentages graduated from secondary schools.
Twenty eight percentages were trading. Their median family income was 9,000 baht
(Min=5,000 baht: Max=320,000 baht). Thirty percentages and thirty two percentages of
samples are most at risk relatives as hypertension and diabetes, most like to eat sweet
taste salty 24.0%.In the control group, most samples accounting for 52.0% were female.
The average age was 46.2yrs (S.D. =2.4yrs). Fifty two percentages of the samples were
single. Fifty four percentages of the samples graduated bachelor degree. Fifty four percentages
were trading. Their median family income was 350,000 baht (Min=7,500 baht: Max=900,000
baht). Twenty two percentages of samples are most at risk relatives as hypertension and
diabetes, most like to eat sweet taste salty 8.0%. The results of comparing differences in
scores on knowledge, understanding the correct health, management of health conditions,
discriminatory decision and self-care and behavior of High-risk people to diabetes showed
that the average scores in the experimental group were higher than before the experiment
and then those in the control group with a statistical significant level at 0.05. The experimental
results on application of the created program could be used for changing behavior of Highrisk
people to diabetes and answer the objectives set.
