Relationship between Occupational Health and Safety Management System and Company Performance: Case Study of Industries in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

One of the objectives of this study was to determine the relationship
between the occupational health and safety management system and
company performance based on the Ministerial Regulation on the Prescribing of
Standard for Administration and Management of Occupational Safety, Health
and Environment B.E. 2549 (A.D. 2006) and the Ministerial Regulation on the
Prescribing of Standard for Administration and Management of Occupational
Safety, Health and Environment (No.2) B.E. 2553 (A.D. 2010). Other was to
study the relationship between the accredit process for OHSAS 18001: 2007
and company performance in order to promote occupational health and
safety for accident prevention and control from workplace. This study was
conducted in the industrial estates which located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Province with the sample of 120 factories. Data were collected from professional
safety officers which they were working in each factory. The research instruments
were questionnaires with reliability in range of 0.800.95. The findings indicated
that the application of Occupational Health and Safety Management System
based on these law were significantly positively correlated to Business
Continuity Management Performance, Safety Performance, Human Resource
Performance, Productivity Performance, and Economicfinance Performance
(r=0.716, p<0.05; r=0.633, p<0.05; r=0. 603, p<0.05; r=0.394, p<0.05 and
r=0.352, p<0.05, respectively). In the issue of relationship of OHSAS 18001:
2007 accredited and nonaccredited to company performance, the study
found that 33 factories (27.50 %) were accredited and 87 factories (72.50 %)
were nonaccredited. Also the results indicated that OHSAS 18001: 2007
accredited were significantly positively correlated to Safety Performance,
Business Continuity Management Performance and Economicfinance
Performance (χ2=29.760, p<0.05; χ2=21.851, p<0.05 and χ2=9.039, p<0.05,
respectively). But OHSAS 18001: 2007 accredited were not correlated to
Productivity Performance and Human Resource Performance.
