Health Status’s of Grade 7 Students and Environmental Sanitation of a Secondary School at Nakhon Phanom Municipality District during the Academic Year 2009

Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive research was to study the health status of grade 7
students and the situation of environmental sanitation of a secondary school at the
Nakhon Phanom Municipality. The study was conducted in 2009. A total of 585
students were purposively selected. Methods used included the physical
examination of students and the recording of the environmental sanitation.
Conventional descriptive statistics were used to analyze the result. From the
students 99% underwent a physical examination. It was found that 0.35% were
underweight, 7.1% overweight, 0.7% stunted, while 1.4% were rather short and
0.9% very thin. The proportion of obese students was 3.8% and 12.43% were found
with dental carries. The vision was abnormal for 11.6% and hearing was impaired
by 0.5%. The environmental sanitation passed the standard level demanded of
health promoting schools. The results of this study may be considered as baseline
information for improving and developing health promotion for grade 7 students.
