Abstract

The purpose of this cross-sectional survey was to examine the results of cervical cancer screening
undertaken by the Don Chang Health Promotion Hospital, at the Municipality District of the Khon Kaen
Province. The participants were in the age of 30 to 60 years. Five hundred fifty five participants had been
selected at random and asked to return a questionnaire regardless whether they had actually taken part in a
screening program or not. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods.
One hundred sixty females had participated in a cancer screening program a year before. Out of this
group 64.5% were in the age of 47 to 60 years old. Another 187 respondents did not participate in screening.
They were in the age of 30 to 45. From those who underwent cervical cancer screening 98.1% did not have
cervical cancer. However 47.9% did show other abnormal results such as inflammation of the cervix. The main
reason not to participate in screening was lack of time because of being engaged in a full time job. This was
claimed by 32.1%. Another 26.2% said that they were ashamed to expose them to the examiner. The Don
Chang Health Promotion Hospital was the most popular place for cervical cancer screening in that 62% had
been screened there.
