Development of a Healthy Workplace at the Nakhondert Administrative Organization Sub – District, Srinakorn District, Sukhothai Province

Health promotion at the workplace enhances the health of the office personal and improves the work
performance. A healthy workplace means that the office is clean and the environment is safe with no pollution.
This will enhance the motivation of the staff to work. The office of the local organization has an important role
to play for its area under its responsibility and ought to be a good example for others offices as well. The
Nakhondert Administrative Organization joined the initiative for a healthy workplace in 2009 and found that
there were 9 items out of 57 which had been found to be of substandard. In 2010 of project was started to
correct the situation. Participants in this undertaking had been the head of the office, officials and other staff
with a total number of 37 individuals. Activities initiated included to set up a committee for a healthy workplace,
distribute health information, set a policy for health promotion such as introducing a non-smoking regulation,
campaign to stop smoking, motivation to participate in sport activities and provide exercise apparatus. The
intervention took place for 10 weeks.
After the end of the project the Nakhondert Administrative Organization passed the criteria laid down
by the ‘Anamai’ standard in 2010. The participation of the staff in the project increased significantly (p-value
<.001). It could be demonstrated that the initiative of a healthy workplace could be implemented successfully
and this intervention might be introduced in other places as well.
