Abstract

This survey research aimed to 1) study the expenses in education in the aspects of money and loss of
opportunity cost, 2) compare the expenses spent among each years 3) study the behavior in spending money of
the students and 4) study the expenses’ problems and the needs of the Bachelor of Science (Public Health)
students. The samples were 350 Bachelor of Science (Public Health) Program in Sanitary Science and
Occupational Health and Safety students studying in the academic year 2008. A questionnaire was used as a
research instrument. The data were analyzed by basic statistics: mean, percentage and One-way ANOVA was
used to compare the expenses of the students in different level year.
The results were shown that the average expenses throughout the course of the Bachelor of Science
students were 368,024.14 Baht per each student. The expenses for Bachelor of Science (Public Health) Program
in Sanitary Science within 4 years were 360,047.35 Baht per each student. The expenses can be divided as the
expenses that did not directly include in the education (make a living): 233,533.04 Baht per each student and the
expenses that directly include in the education: 126,514.31 Baht per each student. The expenses for Bachelor of
Science (Public Health) Program in Occupational Health and Safety within 4 years were 376,000.94 Baht per each
student. The expenses can be divided as the expenses that did not directly include in the education (make a
living): 238,646.72 Baht per each student and the expenses that directly include in the education: 137,354.22 Baht
per each student. The loss opportunity cost of the students throughout 4 years was 235,952.40 Baht. The
expenses spent among non different level were different at statistical significance level at 0.05. For the behaviors
in expresses spending of the students, it was found that there was a difference between the expresses in the first
and second semesters. The students of Bachelor of Science (Public Health) Program in Sanitary Science had
higher expenses in the first semester than those of the second semester: 97.54 percent. The students of Bachelor
of Science (Public Health) Program in Occupational Health and Safety had higher expenses in the first semester
than those of the second semester: 86.90 percent. Regarding the expenses’ problems of the students, it was
revealed that 5 important problems were money problem, problems in studying, extra activities’ problems, shops
and services problems and safety in life and possessions problems. According to the needs of the students, there
were 5 important needs: loan for study, jobs provided after graduation, job provided during study, the foundation
supporting careers after graduation and textbook and stationery provided sufficiently during study.
