People’s Participation in the Prevention and Control of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Banped Sub-district, Muang Khon Kean District, Khon Kean Province

The aim of this cross-sectional descriptive study was to investigate villagers’
participation in the prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever at Banped
sub-district, Muang Khonkan district, Khon Kaen province. Altogether 187
individuals were selected by a systematic random sampling to participate in the
project. Data were analyzed by using common descriptive statistics including the
pearson correlation coefficient, and the spearman rank correlation. Participation
of villagers was neither good nor bad (mean score 3.64, SD=0.56). Participation in
terms of investment and performance had the highest score (mean of 3.71, SD
=0.56). Participation in the aspects of evaluation had the lowest score with a mean
of 3.59, SD =0.71). Personal factors such as age, gender, education, occupation,
income, marital status, and duration of stay in the area had no correlation to
participation in terms of prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Motivation, activity participation, government support, news information, and
personal influence were significantly correlated with the villagers’ participation at
p < 0.05. There was no correlation between knowledge about the disease and
participation.
