Evaluation of Paired Schools on Dental Health Promotion in Region 5

Abstract

The results of dental health national survey in 2007 revealed that in region 5 , 80%
of children 5 years old had dental caries. This study aimed to evaluate paired
schools on dental health promotion in region 5 project. Included Nakhon
Ratchasima , Chaiyaphum , Buriram and Surin province in the project
implementation, input and selection method factors. Each province purposive
selected two paired schools with best dental health promotion. Four provinces ,a
total of 16 schools, eight paired schools. (A paired school included schools that had
the best dental health promotion to help development of the promoting the dental
health promotion to school adjacent to each other). The study was conducted in
June 2010. Data were collected by mean of interview, reviewing school dental
health reports, observing activities and taking DVD record. Checklist to record the
inputs and the process to implementation. Qualitative research controlled by Data &
Methodological Triangulation technique and analyzed by content analysis. Found that
dental health promotion activities in the context of the school and provincial level
to select paired schools for regional level. There were 68 participating schools. Three
inputs that promote the implementation of the project ; Human factors. Consisting
of personnel associated with the project had developed dental health knowledge
and enthusiasm for dental health promotion. Environmental resources. The
schools and community collaboration mobilized resources, materials, budget,
facilities, contributing to dental health. Strategies and activities. With good
management and the needs of the community and incentive to contest the action.
Two factors affecting the selection procedures. The network operated by students,
school administrators, subdistrict administrative organization, dental supported by
the public health officials in the schools. Implementation of the measures. Acadamic
of dental health. Control food/snacks that were harmful to oral health. And
brushing teeth after lunch everyday with fluoride toothpaste. In summary, all the
provinces in paired schools with the implementation of dental health promotion
had the inputs of the human factors, environmental resources, strategies and
activities support functions. The approach to the project was the partnership
networks and measures of academic dental health, Control intake and brushing
was a way to accomplish the task.
