Abstract

Objective: To examine the pharmaceutical therapy-related quality of life in university students treated with antidepressants. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study collected data from 76 undergraduate and graduate students receiving treatment with antidepressants at Student Wellness of Chulalongkorn University between March to June 2023. Pharmaceutical therapy related quality of life was assessed using the short version of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measure of Pharmaceutical Therapy (PROMPT). Results: Mean age of the subjects was 21.33±2.94 years. The scores on all eight domains (16 items) of the PROMPT were at the moderate to good level (within the range of 51-75 out of the full score of 100). Average scores on each domain were as follows: (a) medicine and disease information (59.08±18.61); (b) medicine effectiveness (59.87±20.65); (c) impacts of medicines and side-effects (55.59±26.33); (d) psychological impacts of medication use (60.20±23.16); (e) convenience mean (68.75±27.12); (f) availability and accessibility (70.39±29.92); (g) therapeutic relationship with healthcare providers (70.39±27.00); and (h) overall quality of life (59.54±22.35). Conclusion: The results of the research reveal the pharmaceutical therapy related-quality of life in each domain in university students receiving antidepressants which is useful for monitoring patients and further improving the pharmaceutical care service.
