Activity-Based Costing of Medication Reconciliation of Inpatient Department at Camillian Hospital, Bangkok

Abstract

Objective: To conduct an activity-based costing of medication reconciliation in the inpatient department at Camillian hospital, Bangkok. Methods: This research was a descriptive study. Activities-based costing was divided into 4 activities include 1) verification 2) clarification 3) reconciliation and 4) transmission. The data were collected from June, 1 2018 to August 31, 2018 from 47 volunteer. The data collected forms and medication reconciliation form were used as research tools. Results: Clarification activities showed the largest cost of 29.80 Baht per time, followed by the activity of verification with a cost of 26.55 Baht per time. While the costs of other activities such as reconciliation and transmission were 17.85 and 16.61 Baht, respectively. The highest proportion of cost was labor cost. The ratio of labor cost: material cost: capital cost was equal to 84.81: 13.93: 1.26. Conclusion: Labor cost was accounted for the highest proportion of cost. Providers and those in medication reconciliation service could apply the study results for resource management in order to attain the service with highest efficiency.
