Developing the Test of Basic Knowledge on Drug Use for Caretakers of Medication Boxes within the Dormitories where the Students of University of Phayao Resided

Abstract
Objective: To develop and examine the qualities of the test of basic knowledge of drug use (TBKDU) for caretakers of medication boxes in the dormitories where the students of University of Phayao were residents. Method: The researchers reviewed the literature on basic knowledge of drug use and medications in dormitories. Subsequently, the researchers developed the Test version 1 and tested its content validity by calculating the index of item-objective congruence (IOC) from the review of 5 experts. The Test was reviewed into version 2 and then was pilot-tested in 30 care takers of medication boxes for test duration and content comprehension. The revision of the test led to version 3 which was further tested in 150 care takers of medication boxes. The study calculated reliability using Kuder–Richardson 21 method (KR-21), difficulty (p value) and discrimination (r value). The Test was again reviewed to the final version. Results: The TBKDU for care takers of medication boxes in the dormitories where the students of University of Phayao resided were composed of 20 items with 4 items in each of five domains of medication use including right person, right disease, right route, right dose and right time. The Test showed content validity with IOC at 0.60-1.00, reliability with KR-21 at 0.54, acceptable difficulty (P=0.39-0.80) and good discrimination (r=0.24-0.50). Conclusion: The developed TBKDU demonstrated standard quality of the test and it could be used to evaluate the basic knowledge of drug use for for care takers of medication boxes to support rational drug use in dormitories where the students of University of Phayao were residents.
