Development of Nursing Practice Guidelines for the Prevention of Specially Controlled Drug-Resistant Infections

Drug-resistant infections requiring special control represent a major challenge to healthcare systems, as they compromise patient safety, prolong hospital stays, and increase healthcare costs. This study aimed to develop nursing practice guidelines for the prevention of specially controlled drug-resistant infections at Somdet Phra Sangharaja Hospital No. 19. A developmental research design based on the Deming Cycle (Plan–Do–Check–Act: PDCA) was employed. The study sample consisted of 50 registered nurses working in inpatient wards. Research instruments included a knowledge test, a nursing practice assessment form, and a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the developed guidelines. Content validity was assessed by three experts, yielding Index of Item–Objective Congruence: IOC values ranging from 0.67 to 1.00. The reliability coefficient of the instruments was 0.84. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results indicated that, following the implementation of the CHALIDA nursing practice guidelines, nurses’ knowledge scores regarding the prevention of specially controlled drug-resistant infections were significantly higher than those measured before implementation (Z=−4.675 p<.001). The overall level of nursing practice was rated as good, while satisfaction with the developed guidelines was reported at a high level. These findings suggest that the developed nursing practice guidelines can effectively enhance nurses’ knowledge and practices related to the prevention of specially controlled drug-resistant infections. Therefore, nursing departments and infection prevention and control committees may consider adopting these guidelines to strengthen infection prevention and control measures in healthcare settings.
