Anti-Cancer Activity of Alkaloids and Nitrogen-Containing Compounds from Endophytic Fungi

Abstract

Many genera of endophytic fungi including  Aspergillus sp., Campylocarpon sp., Chaetomium sp., Coniothyrium sp., Emericella sp. , Eutypella sp., Fusarium sp., Paecilomyces sp. , Paraphaeosphaeria sp., Penicillium sp. , Phoma sp., Phomopsis sp. and Trichoderma sp. are able to synthesize alkaloids and nitrogen-containing compounds. These isolated compounds, when tested against different cancer cell lines, displayed  strong to weak cytotoxic activity with wide range of  IC50 values.
